PRO WATERCROSS SLALOM DRAGS

OVERVIEW

The Pro Watercross Slalom/Drags Invitational draws from the best talent in watercraft racing and assembles them in the most exciting classes in a high-stakes, made-for-tv format.

Utilizing the best features from other sport disciplines like NHRA Drag Racing, Supercross, Speedway Motorcycle Racing, and NASCAR, the Pro Watercross Slalom Drags event seeks to implement non-traditional variables in an effort to “fix” some of the inherent “problems” plaguing traditional watercraft racing. The results are expected to make for great racing and great tv content as well as a great fan experience.

Pro Watercross is often referred to as Motocross on the water -  with one MAJOR difference - the athletes compete on an unpredictable liquid track that changes from moment to moment! Some of the Pro GP classes utilize the most advanced equipment reaching speeds of over 85 mph while the Stock and Spec classes adhere to stringent rules limiting the watercraft to remaining in mostly stock configuration with few exceptions but for handling and safety features. The Pro/Am classes allow for up-and-coming riders to have a place to compete at a higher level which also acts as a feeder system to develop the Pro classes in the future.

Each bracket race begins with a side-by-side gated start, something that has never been done before! Competitors will be able to custom set the launch resistance of their watercraft by adjusting the height of the suspended “lifts” which are attached to the floating starting dock. Our expert announcers will draw attention to this aspect of the race adding to the intrigue and strategy that fans will appreciate. Unlike traditional watercraft races in the past, which sends the field of competitors away from shore thus creating water spray at the first turn essentially limiting the view of the fans and the announcers from the action, the Pro Watercross Slalom Drag racing format orients the starting lane to run parallel with the fans for an exciting visual first turn experience!  A Pro Watercross Slalom Drags start features 2 riders exploding off the line as they try to time the dragster-like light tree, in an effort to be the first one to his/her respective holeshot buoy before navigating a series of slalom turn buoys and finishing with a sprint race towards a turn-around buoy and a drag race to the finish line which is half-way back towards the middle of the course they just went through.  Speed, technique and racing ability will all come into play as every win matters if they want to advance through the Rounds, Heats and Semis and into the Final Event. The stakes are high and most will be eliminated until 1 racer is left winning the Overall Class Champion.

The top 8 fastest qualifiers will have a shot at the glory and the prize money as they are whittled down to just 2  competitors in each of the Finals - the Class Championship Events.
